What Do Clubs Need?

Tags: , ,

What do you believe is the most effective way to get your band booked on good shows in good clubs? Most bands believe that its talent that causes a club owner or productions company to pick up the telephone and contact a band wanting to book them.  However, that’s only accurate if the group’s talent has helped the them to develop a fan base in their town.

No matter how talented a group might be until they can bring folks to the club owner’s venue, then the venue will have little interest in that certain group.  Talent does not pay the club owner’s expenses or put money in his pocket, only folks in his club can do that for him.  It’s fantastic if your band can put on a great show, play some great songs, but if you can’t deliver people to his venue he will not be able to book you again.

I know it doesn’t seem fair, but recognize that it’s not the venues fault, they didn’t make the rules.  When the landlord comes for the rent the club owner can’t tell him, sorry I don’t have the money, but you’ll be pleased to hear that the band I had here last night was astounding.  Just as you can’t tell your landlord hey I can’t pay my bills, but here’s my new CD instead. Most club owners got involved in the music business, because they enjoy music.  If they had it their way they would only book talented groups that theylike, but the reality of life prevents that from happening.

If you genuinely want to get on great shows, then work on developing a big following of 100 folks or more.  Building a following will require that you write greats songs, put on great shows and that you work to build a fan base by inviting everybody you know to every show until you have a strong fan base.  If you bring a big crowd a couple of times, then the clubs will be calling you group and begging you to play.
