Acoustic Guitar Lesson: Do You Need A Pick?

Tags: , , , , , , ,

The acoustic guitar is a truly god-send instrument. With a pick, you can play a variety of songs and you can easily use the acoustic guitar to express your thoughts and emotions. Taking a beginning acoustic guitar lesson is the best way to go about it, to learn the basics and get off on the right foot. You will quickly learn there are many different tips and strategies that can help you with playing the guitar especially if you are thinking of starting on beginning guitar lessons.

One important step is to decide whether or not to use a pick when playing the guitar. You can pretty find that different guitarist players have different preferences. Some rely on a pick while others play with just their fingers, so how do you decide which way is best? Without a doubt, your choice depends on the sort of guitar playing you want to perform. Playing flamenco music for instance would make using a pick a poor choice as it will create a deeper sound that is not suitable for this style of music.

If you are planning to play a faster song, using a pick is strongly encouraged.Without a pick, you can find it pretty limiting. Most acoustic guitar lessons are taught with a pick so that students can always take up the fingerpicking guitar style afterwards if they like, but at least they have the most options by using a pick. My suggestion is for you to start learning all your favorite songs using a pick and then once you have more experience and know how to play better, you can mix it up and go back and forth from using a pick to fingerpicking.

When strumming slow acoustic songs, it doesnt hurt to use your fingertips but for faster songs it could actually make your fingers bleed. Believe it or not, there are actually steps to choosing a suitable pick for playing guitar, something that can be easily found in any beginner acoustic guitar lesson. Like another things, picks can be found in a variety of sizes and styles. The most materials for a pick are plastic, nylon and tortex.

The size of your pick will affect the overall sound the greatest. If youre just getting started with playing the guitar its advisable to keep to a larger pick as it will be much easier for you to handle. You have to base your decision on your own personal preference and needs. This is just one acoustic guitar lesson and there are many others you need to learn before mastering the guitar including how to hold the guitar, how to tune the guitar and how to strum.
