Aerosmith Dream On was the first major hit for the group. It only reached number 59 when it was originally released as a single. But in 1976 it made it all the way up to number six during its re-release. The first live performance of this song took place at a tiny inn. Aerosmith Dream On was re-released many times.
The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame named Aerosmith Dream On one of 500 songs that shaped rock music. Rolling Stone listed as number 172 in its 500 greatest songs of all time. It’s considered a signature song for the group.
Artists often sample songs like Aerosmith Dream On in other music. This is when a portion of a song is used in the new work. It was featured as a sample as part of the 2002 album Eminem Show. The track featured Aerosmith’s lead vocalist on guitar. Some less famous musicians also covered Aerosmith Dream On. Slim Thug is one of them.
One story says Led Zeppelin wrote the song. That’s false. Some Buick commercials use the song. Dream up is the slogan in the commercials. Movies like Last Action Hero used the song.
Aerosmith Dream On has been featured in a number of video games. Dead or Alive Ultimate used it. There’s a game called Guitar Hero Aerosmith. The game features a brand new recording. The song could be downloaded as part of Guitar Hero III. It was a promotion for the new game.
Even orchestras have been involved with Aerosmith Dream On. It was featured like this for MTVs 10th anniversary show. And in 2006 members of Aerosmith performed it with the Boston Pops. They have sometimes dedicated the song to deceased fans or fallen soldiers.
The song Aerosmith Dream On has become an institution.
