Allen Organs Are Top Of The Line
Many young people have the foresight to design and produce an item that is better than all of its predecessors. Jerome Mankowitz was one such man. Beginning in his youth he had a fascination with many things and set about to make them better. College years found him enthralled with the organ. It was an instrument he would become to love. Not only would he replicate it but he would manufacture a far greater instrument and begin his own company known as Allen Organs.
Making use of the family’s basement after they moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania, Jerome worked hard to produce his own variation of the organ. Lack of room forced him to continue his work in an unused portion of his father’s mill. Another young man, namely Norman Koons, who was adept in mechanical skills, met and began working alongside Jerome. Their combined efforts saw the completion of the first instrument of many the duo would build.
Many workers were hired to fill the needs of production on a greater scale. These same workers had to be laid off when World War II and its aftermath had such a devastating effect on the economy. With fewer instruments being made, the company persevered. Production slowed but its integrity of workmanship never waned.
Introduction to the world came about during the 1960′s while the company was achieving its largest growth period. From one man’s idea, a small but determined group survived to become the largest manufacturer of these marvelous instruments. From the greatest of cathedrals to the smallest of churches, an organ can be produced to fit every need.
Today there are a large number of models from which to choose. Each of them can be designed based on the specific wants and needs of the buyer. For small areas there is the Chapel style. Affordable, while losing nothing in style and sound, is the Protege. The design of the Heritage was established using the many requests of the customers and its flexibility is well known. The latest innovation is the Quantum digital organ.
There is yet to be a musical device that can overshadow those made by Allen Organs. Although the company is now run by the founder’s son, it has left nothing of its original intent behind. Its major accomplishment has been to make an instrument that will provide years of enduring quality in workmanship and sound.
