How Learning to Play the Piano Impacted My Life

Posted on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in Related Music

children's piano lessons

Have you often dreamed of playing the piano, but feel it is a dream out of your reach? I was exactly like you before I stumbled upon some basic piano lessons which totally transformed my view. Not only did I learn to play the piano, but it had a true impact on my life.

Right from my very first lesson, the way I viewed the piano changed. I realized suddenly that the keys on the piano make a pattern and that pattern allows the keys to be separated into sections. When you break the piano down in such a manner it suddenly doesn’t seem so daunting or confusing. I never realized that the keys could be looked at individually rather than as a collective group.

With those first lessons, I was able to start practicing the basic principles of piano playing. I started clapping out rhythms, writing and playing individual notes, and eventually I was tapping out simple melodies. Each lessons taught me something new and I would practice over and over, later on testing myself on each new skill to see how far I had advanced.

I always thought learning the piano was a slow process because that is how children are often taught, but I discovered that moving at my own pace I could advance quite rapidly. That satisfied me enough to make room in my daily life for regular practice sessions. I found wiggle room in my work and home schedule to make this happen.

There came a time when I wanted to play music that was easy for me - music that I recognized rather than what I was writing out in my exercises. So, I went to the music store and bought two books. I chose an Easy Piano Book and a Fake Book, just as the lessons had suggested.

I went through the Easy Piano Book, learning to sight read without too much difficulty. That was when I began playing songs I had heard all my life. This particular Easy Piano Book was based on Broadway musicals. I knew most of the songs already, so it was great to be able to play them.

The Fake Book, on the other hand, was full of modern pop songs. I had read through the lessons and found out how to use a Fake Book, so I quickly began. I did not know all the chords, so I looked up the new ones before I tried to play each song.

Eventually, I found myself playing songs directly from the radio and my friends would have a blast singing along with me. Finally, I was playing real songs that I loved to sing and was creating a fun time for my friends.

Now that I know the basics of the piano I am a much happier person. I set out to learn something new and I accomplished it much faster than I imagined it would be possible. I will never be a professional performer and I am definitely not an expert on the piano, but I am a very content player who has taught herself something quite remarkable.

Finding the Perfect Drum Kit

Posted on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Related Music

Are you looking for a great drum kit or drums and accessories to enjoy? Well then you are definitely looking at the right place. When you’re going to buy a drum, making sure that you get the perfect drum is important. The sound you produce will be affected greatly by the kit and accessories that you invest in. Now, lets take a look at the drums and accessories available.

One of the most important thing you need to go along with your drum kit is a stool or throne. You probably don’t want to end up playing while standing. Therefore, you’ll want to be sure that you take the time to choose a drum throne. When you start looking at drum stools, make sure the ones you are looking at are going to be comfortable. You don’t want to spend hours playing on a stool that makes your rear hurt. There are many different styles available, so consider your style and your comfort when choosing.

You may also want to think about choosing an electronic drum set rather than a conventional set. Even though acoustic drum sets are popular today, many people are starting to buy electric drums. This is a great idea if you are planning on recording, since they easily hook up with sound boards for recording purposes.

A drum case is another accessory for your drum kit that you’re probably going to need. After spending your hard earned money on a drum kit, you want to take care that it stays in good condition. Getting a good drum case is really important especially if you plan on traveling with your drums or if you’re moving your drums. You don’t want your kit to get banged up mid-transit, do you? So it might require some extra money, but in the long run it will definitely pay off.

You can also personlize your drums. There are many different stickers on the market, especially for your bass drum. There are tons of stickers out there which you can easily add to your bass drum. These stickers are a great way to add a little bit of flair to your drum.

Another important part of your drum kit is the snare drum - you will want to be sure that you get one. Keep in mind that you don’t have to buy entire kit just to get a snare kit. You can purchase snare drums separately and they definitely make a great addition to your kit. They have a great sound, and really no kit is complete without a good snare drum to use.

It’s also suggested that you have a drum set rug for setting up your system. Without a rug, you might find that you drum likes to move on you while you’re jamming out. You definitely don’t want this to happen, especially if you are performing. So keep your drum kit firmly in place with a drum rug, and your audience’s focus on the music and not the odd movement of your instruments.

Learning To Play A Musical Instrument

Posted on Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Related Music

Many people love to learn how to play musical instruments for one reason or another.  Some love the challenge, others love to entertain and some just love to learn new things. It really doesn’t matter what your reasons are, but you are here now to learn more about playing a musical instrument.

Though there are many different instruments to choose from, there are three major musical instruments that have become the most popular to learn.

The Piano

First of all there is the piano.  It is said that one who learns the piano can learn any instrument.  I am not sure that this is a true statement but I have heard it from many people.  The piano is a string instrument that is played using keys or a keyboard.  The keys are pressed by the player and this moves a hammer inside the piano.  When the hammer moves it hits the strings inside the piano causing the strings to vibrate. This is where the sound is produced.  The piano is built in a way that the sound is amplified.  The amplification of the piano strings is loud enough to be heard in a large building.  For more information about how you too can learn how to play the piano, check out piano lessons for beginners.

The Guitar

Similar to the piano, the guitar is also a string musical instrument.  The differences between the piano and guitar a vast when it comes to appearance.  However, the concept of engineered sound between the two is not that different.Unlike the piano, the guitar is or can be a hand held instrument.  It would be very difficult to hold a piano in your hands.  With the guitar there are electric and acoustic versions of the instrument. The acoustic version and electric create sound in the same manner.  The player of the instrument presses their fingers on the strings on one end of the guitar and picks or strums the string on the other end.  The acoustic version has an echo chamber or amplified box just below the area where the strings are picked or strummed.  As the strings vibrate, the sound is transferred into the guitar giving the guitar a nice solid sound.  As for the electric version of the guitar.  The sound is transferred electronically through pick-ups installed on the guitar body below the strings.  These pick ups act as a microphone of sorts.  The pick up does exactly as the name represents. It picks up the sound caused by the vibrations and transfers the sound to a speaker. If you are interested in learning the guitar, visit Beginner Guitar Lesson Online for more information about learning the guitar.

The Violin

The violin is a musical instrument that you will either love or hate.  As for myself, I believe that the sounds created by the violin are some of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard.  Now when someone is learning the violin, you can hear some very awful sounds.  However, once they have mastered using the bow this musical instrument can be used to create some of the most beautiful music. The violin is very similar to the guitar in the was that the sound is generated.  However, the violin is mostly played using a bow.  The bow is used to slide up and down the strings causing a vibration similar to the strum of a guitar except for the bow caused a steady sound as it is moved across the strings.Though the violin is a challenging musical instrument to master, it can be a very rewarding experience to learn.  If you are looking to learn more about the violin, maybe even take lessons you will want to check out How To Play Violin.

How You Can Easily Write A Song

Posted on Friday, March 5, 2010 in Related Music

The thought of writing a great song may seem like an impossible task, but it really isn’t. Sure, some musicians out there constantly leave us speechless, but it’s all a matter of hard word and trial and error. But to get you started, there a few things to remember when constructing your first song.

There are a lot of ways to start writing a song. You could have a neat lyrical idea or perhaps a nice melody floating around you head. Some people love to start off with a beat that they can groove to and go from there. There’s wrong way to do it and it may vary from song to song.

Let’s say you are strumming your dreadnought acoustic guitar and come up with a catchy chord progression. If you can hum a nice melody over it, you could have a chorus. Remember, the chorus is usually the strongest part of the song, so many times it is easier to come up with a catchy chorus first and work backwards.

Lyrics are a different beast. While catchy melodies are for the most part universal, lyrics are very subjective. Some are dark and scary others are bright and cute. If you need help deciding your style, just take a pen and some scrapbooking papers and write whatever comes into your head until you like something. Then try sticking that line into a song. It will be a great feeling if it works.

A great beat is what drives many a song. Even if you’ve set out to write a folk tune on your Takamine acoustic guitar, you’re still gonna need a rhythm to strum along too. Decide what works best with the melody and with your lyrics. If you have minor chords and sad lyrics, perhaps a slower tempo would work. Yet, speeding it up would turn into into an angry sounding song which may be what you want.

The best tip you can remember in songwriting is to never underestimate your audience. People take music very seriously. If they feel that your song is just more of the same, they’re likely to tune it out. Try new things. Surprise people. Sometimes it may work, sometimes it may not. But you will certainly captures people’s attention.

You see, it’s really a simple process, songwriting. It doesn’t matter the order, but always consider melody, lyrics, beat, and originality when writing your hit. Different pieces vary and some aspects may be more important than others. That’s up to you. The world is at your finger tips.

Bad Music Defined: Hollywood Undead

Posted on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Related Music

Usually people who love music want to like to write about music they love (for me that would be bands like The Velvet Underground, Oasis, & The Flaming Lips.) But sometimes it’s fun to talk about bad music. In fact in some ways it’s more fun. And it’s certainly much easier to find. Just check out MySpace music to see what I mean. The worst thing to me is that some of the absolute most horrible music I’ve heard on MySpace is also the most popular.

Hollywood Undead has to be the greatest example of this. They are incredibly bad and even more incredibly popular. I know it’s nothing new for “the kids” to love crap music, but I think Hollywood Undead just takes that concept too far? At least most of the awful music of the past had at least some redeeming value. Sure Milli Vanilli was cheesy but their songs were catchy and had some good production values.

But they certainly are not all alone in the big world of awful music.

How about country pop singer Dierks Bentley? Have you heard this fluff? He’s incredibly awful. I had heard his name before but had never checked out his music before as I have no interest in country pop but one day I came across his latest single “Feel That Fire” and I was just floored because it was so much worse than I thought it would be. And that’s saying quite a bit because I assumed it was be flat out terrible. But no, it’s much worse than that.

It’s no big deal that guys are recording awful music. There’s nothing new about bad music. The big deal to me is that so many people actually think this is good music. Why is that? Why are people just so incredibly clueless about what constitutes quality?

The easy thing to blame would be American Idol. And I’m sure that does have a part to play. It’s taught people that the only thing that matters in music is having a pretty voice.

But I’m sure it must go much deeper than that. After all, it’s not like people liking bad music is an entirely new thing. The masses are always attracted to the easy to swallow garbage that usually fills the top forty every week. And it’s the real music that real music lovers listen to and that lasts for years.

Obviously no one will be listening to anyone from American Idol or Dierks Bentley in 50 years (except out of pure nostalgia or as a joke) while people will still be listening the music of true musical artists like Ween & The Rolling Stones.

How To Get The Best Guitar Effects

Posted on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in Related Music

You simply could have somebody close to you who knows the easiest way to play the guitar very well. This should be a bro, a sister, an uncle, an, aunt, even your mummy and your pa, and many good friends who can inspire anybody with their fast fingers all over the instrument. And that person just might already have close to everything when it comes to reinforcing the music the guitar generates.

So, what are you able to get that person for him to have more guitar sound effects? Apart from the amplifier, what else can be done to get guitar sound effects? Before we are going into that, it is vital to comprehend the idea behind guitar sound effects. You see, guitar sounds are produced with the use of electric signals. These signals are then manipulated and processed using particular strategies and instruments. Special instruments , for example pedals, are used to change the sound generated by the instrument. These altered sounds are then the guitar sound effects that are produced. The method here is that the guitar first produces a selected sound. This sound is taken by a specific instrument or sound device. The sound device then processes and modifies the sound, then sends it off to the speakers. The speakers then blast out the altered guitar sound effects.

So, what can you get for that close person to have the desired guitar sound effects? As mentioned already, pedals make great instruments for generating guitar sound effects. Effects pedals usually come with a lot of options that you can try. The convenience right here is that you can use your foot to change the settings of the pedal to achieve the guitar sound effects that you want. Some pedals have a lot of channels that produce varying sounds. The popular pedal that gives such guitar sound effects is the Line 6 PODSX Live Pedal. Others just come with a single pedal. To switch it on for the guitar sound effects, you just have to step on it.

You may also want to take a look into effects processors. This device takes the electrical signal then modifies it, pretty much like the pedal. But the processor can be hooked to a computer, thus revealing more options for guitar sound effects. With this option, you can actually experiment with the different guitar sound effects the device is capable of giving. Express your emotions through the song by using the appropriate guitar effect. Popular brands of effects processors include Yamaha, Boss, and ToneWorks. To choose which processor to get, browse through the effects they give, and match them with your own preferences and needs.

What’s In Store for You in Adult Ukulele Lessons

Posted on Monday, March 1, 2010 in Related Music

When you think of a Ukulele, you can’t help but also think of a big guy playing it like the celebrated Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, or of white beaches and distant islands. This instrument is not as popular as guitar or flute, so when an adult is looking for a hobby instrument to master Ukulele, it is pretty unique and fascinating.

In this article we will uncover some basics of the Adult Singapore Ukulele Lessons and you will see that this is actually a very player friendly instrument and one of the best possible choices as a hobby instrument.

The first thing that you need to know about Adult Singapore Ukulele Lessons is that it is easy to master and requires not too many hours of practice. There are plenty of Singapore Ukulele teachers, however the easiness of this small guitar will allow you to master it slightly with the help of online lessons and manuals. Of course to reach some advanced levels you will need the help of a singapore ukulele teacher (even in some general parts), but in general there information on different websites will be enough.

Playing in a band or a group of other musicians will help you improve greatly. Ukulele fits in most types of the acoustic music from jazz and reggae to world music and even country. It allows for many opportunies to mingle with different musicians of different genres.

Also Ukulele allows you to both play and sing (not all instruments give such possibility), which makes it a great choice for a party-camping-vacation instrument. When you begin to play and sing Kumba-Ya, your friends will find themselves singing along. There have been hundreds of songs made for the Ukulele, and you can create one too or cover a popular one with a Hawaiian version. You will, of course, need to have good musical ear to be able to do this.

As for some negative sides there are not much of them. First of all, keep in mind that the Ukulele is breakable, so handle it carefully. If you travel a lot make sure that you get a hard case for this instrument. Another not so-negative side is the cute-ness of this instrument. If your intention is to impress girls, then you will be better off with a guitar, but if you just want to play for your family and friends, then the image should not be an issue with you.

Thus, we see that the Ukulele is really a nice instrument to make into a hobby. It is fun to play, easy to master and very easy to care for. You can jam with your friends on those long evenings on your couch, or with just about anybody, including street musicians. If you get sick from it you can always hang it on the wall and then take it off after few months tune and play. Although the Ukulele is just a small instrument, playing it will require a big heart to contain the true spirit of Hawaii.

Why the Ukulele Lessons Will Be Good For Your Children

Posted on Monday, March 1, 2010 in Related Music

The Ukulele will be an ideal musical instrument for your child to start on. It is small, simple, easy to master and sounds charming. And despite its visual cute-ness, Ukulele is a music instrument and can be used in numerous types of acoustic music from traditional Hawaiian music to jazz, swing and reggae.

Ukulele is simple

Learning to play Ukulele is simple. At the beginners level, your child will be taught to play three basic chords. To master these chords, he will need to put in lots of practice time. He will need to concentrate while trying to get the true essence of this terrific instrument. Due to its easiness Ukulele may also be a good starting instrument if you are planning a musical career for your child. Or if you just want a musical hobby for your child, then the Ukulele is also a great choice for anyone.

While your child is mastering the Ukulele, mastering with singapore ukulele lessons will require less hours compared to violin for example. So you can be sure that your kid has enough time for singapore ukulele lessons and home stuff. Also psychologically your kid will be strengthened with his easy victory over the Ukulele, which will motivate him, if he or she starts mastering another instrument after that. Plus, with the ability to play an instrument, your child will have improved self confidence and become more organized in his or her thinking.

If you don’t find a Singapore Ukulele teacher nearby you can look for some lessons online. The Ukulele player communities are noted to be very friendly and helpful to beginners owing probably to the positive vibe of this instrument.

Ukulele is Practical

Lot of instruments like cello or drums are large. It is a problem to transport or carry them (especially for kids) and sometimes even to play them, because of their size. Their noise can also be unbearably loud, so practicing at home will be very unpleasant for other people. Ukulele is instead small and sounds not too loud. The size is also a bonus for a kid, because the adults sometimes find it too small. The Ukulele also requires only simple strings, making it one of the cheapest instruments to maintain.

Ukulele is a music instrument

Despite the fact that Ukulele is small and does not look too serious it is still a full scale music instrument and so mastering a Ukulele is a musical education. Being knowledgeable about the chords will enable you to play and create some basic songs and melodies. But to play and sing simultaneously you child will require a good ear and some practice. Just don’t expect your child to be an expert Ukulele player in a matter of days.

Ukulele is fun

It has this great Hawaiian charm. The second you hear the sound of this small guitar – you literally feel the breeze on the warm Hawaiian beach. Thus, if you want your child to learn a truly wonderful instrument, the Ukulele will be a great choice.

Tips For Finding Best Guitar Slides

Posted on Sunday, February 28, 2010 in Related Music

There are plenty of methods of playing the guitar. And one fascinating way is the slide or the bottleneck methodology. The performer, to slip against the guitar strings, uses an instrument called the slide or the bottleneck. This way, the pitch is adjusted in an appropriate way. You would don’t have to press the string against the fretboard to switch its pitch any more. All you would need to do is use the guitar slide. This isn’t the only thing that guitar slides can do, you know. By placing a guitar slide against a selected string, the length of its vibration may also be sundry.

Guitar slides may be employed on any sort of guitar. But steel guitars are the best for using these slides. This is as using slides make the steel strings resonate better. guitar slides do come in several materials, which should play a part in your selecting of such an accessory. Guitar slides come in 2 materials : steel and glass. In selecting between both, you have got to consider one vital thing about these slides first.

What kind of effect do you want to achieve from guitar slides? If you want to have a mellow sort of effect on the string, then you should go for glass guitar slides. But if you want a sharper twang to the string, then you should go for metal guitar slides. What more, glass slides easily break for obvious reasons, while metal slides are the opposite. You can drop a metal slide, and it would not break at all. This can be another factor when choosing between these two types of guitar slides. But be careful when dealing with chromed guitar slides. If someone suggests that you have a chromed guitar slide, don’t be taken with it. Chromed guitar slides give off sounds that seem a bit cold and thin. A lot of people prefer brass guitar slides because of the rich sounds they give off.

Playing the guitar with slides may seem a bit difficult and awkward to look at sometimes. But this is easily done when your fingers are made comfortable with the slide. You can take your pick from placing the guitar slide on your third or fourth finger. These are the fingers on which wearing guitar slides would be most comfortable.

Comfort is top priority when it comes to choosing slides. Make sure to choose a guitar slide that would make playing easier for you. It better to forgot design and style and go for comfort instead.

Steps in Installing a Satellite Radio

Posted on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Related Music

Satellite radios were produced to give a fun entertainment while driving at the comfort of your own car. A lot of American drivers tune in to their favorite music or sports channel as they drive on the road. This device helps in breaking silence or provides enjoyment especially if you’re driving a very long road.

When you decide to install a radio unit in your vehicle, make sure to have the latest and greatest satellite tuner. You have two options in installing a satellite radio: pay someone to do it or do it by yourself. For cheaper result, try to install it with your own hands. Don’t worry, this page will help you how to install a satellite radio.

1. Install the antenna.

The antenna of a satellite radio is a component which is hard to install in a vehicle. Choose a specific area of your vehicle from the inside or the outside. Make sure the location of the antenna will have a clear view of the sky so reception will properly work. Most antennas are mounted on the front of the roof just near the edge of the windshield. After selecting the best location, find where the wire should run. You can run the wire from the outside by using the rubber seals and under the dashboard of the vehicle.

2. Mount the satellite radio.

Once the antenna and wire are mounted, install the satellite radio unit. Find a spot where to mount the radio. You may use a rubber suction device which will be placed on the windshield. You can also switch to a fabric fastener if you need a more secured mount. Through a fabric fastener, attach the bracket to the dashboard, windshield or other location you have chosen. Then, install the satellite radio receiver on the receiver mount you have placed.

3. Connect the audio.

After you have installed the antenna, wire and radio unit, it’s time to connect the audio to the stereo. Use the input of the stereo, which is the best type of connection. Connect one end of the connector wire or cable to the headphone output of the satellite radio unit and another one to the stereo’s input. If in case your stereo doesn’t have any input, you may use an FM transmitter instead. However, most satellite radios have a built-in FM transmitter included. This transmitter will help you find any unused radio station in order to receive signal from the satellite radio.

Antennas are needed in all satellite radios to produce music and other live channels such as sports and news channels. What’s good about satellite receivers is that they use wireless technology. This means you can listen to your vehicle radio without connecting a wire to the receiver. Other option is to have a high-end single speaker or double speakers. Only run one more wire from the back of your receiver cradle to your vehicle stereo. Sometimes, you need the help of an expert here, so it’s better to ask some inquiries.

Posted on Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Related Music

Guitars are dazzling musical instruments which essentially stand to be one of the most well liked of musical instruments in the world today. Practically employed in nearly all music genres, guitars, particularly electrical guitars, had serious contributions and influence on present day popular culture. If you are looking for quality guitars, Gibson guitars might be just what you’re looking for. But rather low quality guitars are known to affect one guitar performances in a negative fashion. Bottom line, Gibson guitars are simply fine built guitars, with fine quality sounds, ideal for recreational guitar players, or serious guitar playing executives.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, the Gibson Guitar Corporation originally made mandolins as the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co, Ltd. in 1902. Orville Gibson, who was born in 1856, made mandolins in 1894, which paved the track on which Gibson Guitars is on today. Basically all classes and types of guitars are made by Gibson. From acoustic steel stringed to classical guitars, to basic electric to arch top electric guitars, and even to bass guitars, a lot of the popular guitar classes, as well as guitar accessories are made by Gibson. During the dawn of the electric guitar, Charlie Christian, the first of famous electric guitarists, helped promote Gibson ES-150 and ES200, as well as other Gibson electric guitars. Since then numerous famous guitar players and artists have used Gibson guitars, standing testament to the superb quality of Gibson guitars.

The Les Paul electric guitar standard of Gibson guitars has the long standing honor of being the most definitive of guitar shapes, a truly impressive guitar entry in Gibson CV. The Gibson Les Paul Standard is basically a solid body electric guitar, and sells for about $2,300.
