Do Mp3 Players Have A Future?
Over the years our gadgets have progressively become smaller and smaller and that is going to keep happening too. The iPod is a textbook example of this, when it was first launched then it was bulky and could only hold a limited number of songs, now they are tiny and can hold more songs than you will ever need, plus they can play videos etc.
The future lies with devices that can do everything we need though, it will seem antiquated to have a device to take pictures and another to listen to music on etc. We are already starting to see that with the new smart phones which can take quality pictures and play music while doing everything a phone can normally do and allow you seamless access to the internet. One thing that will happen though is these devices will continue to get thinner, I’m not too sure about smaller as you need the screen on a smart phone to be big if you want to browse the internet or play games, but their weight and thickness can certainly be changed.
Another area that we will see improvements in is how much you can customize your phone. People want their phone to stand out from the crowd, but at the moment the only way to do that is to buy a different case, hopefully soon we will be able to customize the exterior of the phone without buying anything else. Something I think would be really cool is if they found a way to wrap the phone in a second screen which can display whatever you want. That way your phone can have any design you want on it, or be any color you want, and change at the press of a button. That way you can get the perfect design to go with your funky pink headphones and change it whenever you want.
Will they ever replace our desktop computers though? I don’t think a phone ever will as the screen is too small and even if you could dock it with a larger screen when you are at home (and preferably a keyboard as well) then it just won’t offer the processing power that you need to run a lot of the things that we enjoy on our main computers. I think that tablets could replace a traditional computer for a lot of people, just because they are a lot easier to use and less complicated, and yet they still have the power to do a lot of the things that people require of them like browse the web and edit or view photos. The only major drawback right now is that to use the iPad you actually need a computer to sync it with to get the most out of it, but hopefully in the future that won’t be the case and they will be usable just by themselves.
There are definitely a lot of exciting developments about the corner, one of the most anticipated things for mobile phones is the release of the new 4G networks. It is debatable yet whether it will live up to the hype, but it is supposed to give us broadband speed internet on our phones, which will really change how we use them. Suddenly we would be able to stream movies straight to our phones and so much more, which would certainly make our morning commute more fun!
