How To Write Songs – Especially If You Are Lazy
It's funny, being a tunesmith myself, I mostly find that writing songs can often be a bore. But why does it feel this way? Isn’t this supposed to be my fervour? Isn’t this supposed to be something that I never lose interest of?
well, not exactly. Everything gets uninteresting once in a while, even the things which you're most impassioned about. So occasionally I love to take the lazy man’s road to doing things. And incredibly, I regularly produce some excellent results!
So listen up. If you newbie at songwriting, or maybe if you've been at it for a bit — I am going to 2 straightforward tricks that may help you start the writing process within a few minutes.
Here we go
1) Review a specific situation in your day. It may be at work, during your travels, or at home. It might be with your work pals, your folks or your friends. Just any situation that affected you in either a positive or negative way.
An example of this would be “when you are at work, your director just keeps hounding you. However the single thing that keeps you going throughout the day is that you know that somebody at work has a pash on you”
(the above is an exceedingly dry example but try to work with me here)
2) Write down as many words as you can think about related to your present position.
Let’s follow the example from earlier on:
fury, discomfort, sad, cheerful, excitement, nervousness, anxious, anguish, impatience, relaxation, spotty, classy, annoying, annoying, antagonizing, fancy, horny, cool, pretty, smile, etc, etc you get the point
3) Write down random short sentences about your present position including the words that you mentioned him step 2. So let’s continue in our tiny experiment
” the way he conversed with me actually angers me”
” if only he knew the pain I suffered within”
” when I see her pretty eyes light up it makes me grin”
” I need to act cool and complex — don’t want to get frustrated”
” he doesn't know what makes my day go by”
” do not want to be in this torment for much longer”
Etc, etc. At that point it is important to note that you don't have to use all the words that you discussed earlier in step 2. As you can see I have even started to make up my personal lines *without* any of the words too! Occasionally, I am rhyming the words without realizing. And this is exactly where the magic begins to happen
You can easily turn this idea into a fully-fledged song. Use rhymezone.com to help find words that rhyme and also other related words as well.
My example was really average and simplified — but you need to use an example that is a bit more dramatic. You must truly get wild with your ideas! Truly, just unleashed.
4) Hear a ‘backing track ‘ (an instrumental of a song) that you have No CLUE about. While it’s playing, make up a melody. Doesn't need to be perfect, just create a tune on the fly. You don't have to sing any words either. Just ‘humm ‘ or ‘laaa ‘ a tune out till you're hearts content.
Why do this? This is an exercise which will subconsciously getting you ready to create melodies for you're own chord sequences in the next step.
5) Make a Straightforward chord progression on the guitar or keyboard. When I say straightforward, I mean *simple*. Perhaps 2 chords for the verse and Two chords for the chorus. Now create a tune on top of that chord progression. Record the tune on tape. There you have it.
NOTE: if you do not play an instrument, then hook up with someone who does. After all , you pretty much have 1/2 the song now
.
It is not simple writing songs, but you should be fine with these tips. See some of my other topics here: SEO consultancy and i also have written about ddr2 ram.
