This year marks the 20th anniversary of the debut album by the grunge band Nirvana who became hugely popular before the tragic death of lead singer Kurt Cobain. So why were the trio so successful and did they really want all of the fame that they received from Nevermind.

Well the band actually formed in 1987 in Aberdeen Washington and was only formed by Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. The only drummer to stick with the band for longer than one year was Dave Grohl and he joined the band in 1990 and stayed until the ned.

The first song that was released under the official name Nirvana was Love Buzz in 1988 and the first album Bleach was not released until the following year which was highly influenced by The Melvins. Cobain apprently got happier and changed his writing style from the anger of bleach to what people heard when Nevermind was released.

Cobain never really wanted any of the fame that he received and he always complained that he had to play for the people that had bullied him at school and that these people were two faced.

After the tragic suicide Cobain and Nirvana still remain one of the best bands ever to come into the world and all that can be said is that it was a great shame it had to end so soon.

If they were around today it is difficult to say if they would be into the newer instruments like newer drum kits but one thing is for certain the way in which they played their guitars would not have changed and the brilliant music would have carried on.
