MTV Drops Slogan

Tags: , , , , , , ,

“Music Television” has been dropped from the MTV logo which to be honest, it needed to happen, since when is music even involved anymore. MTV seems to love reality television now because that is now all they play with just a couple of hours devoted to music a day. Is there anyone out there that really watches MTV now?

The very first MTV video that was played was of course Video Killed The Radio Star and this was aired August 1, 1981. It was of course the first time that an entire television station had been put out to music only and it went to become a great success obviously. The MTV video music awards were something that was set up to really award people for the videos rather than the music which is what the Grammy’s do of course, there have been many controversial incidents from Madonna’s flaunting to Nirvana singing the wrong song on purpose. It looks like at the moment these awards and a couple of hours of video time a day is all that is left of signs of music on the main MTV channel.

The main reason that MTV have actually decided to put down their electric guitars and pick up the more irritating reality shows is simply because more people are searching on the internet for their music now. The main MTV website was updated around this stage and all of their music videos could be viewed online.

To be fair you cannot really argue with what MTV have done because they have many sister channels that they have for fans of anything from classical guitars music to bass guitars music and these seem to play a lot more music than anything else. Many artists are not too happy that they have been pushed onto other channels within the MTV network as they believe the power still remains in the original channel?
