Obliterated History of the Guitar
Ever tried meditating on the roots of your prized guitar? Truth to be told, when the guitar was first invented, it didn’t really look like the kind of guitar that we know today. The guitar’s ancestry runs back so far, reaching the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia. The very first guitar that was invented actually comes from Iraq, about the span of two millennia after which it reappears again. In ancient times it was still called Mesopotamia. In caves near the area, archaeologists found drawings of humans with instruments that resemble a guitar. After the development of Rome and a couple millennia later, yet another stringed instrument that was made similarly like the guitar was found in a tomb. The dark ages also show that their version of the guitar was pretty popular too. There were two designs that were widely used in those days, resembling either French or German influence. One of the designs were rounder, with a stout neck for the frets and a sound hole. The other was more geometric and straight-edged. These were discovered in church ruins and tombs in England. It is speculated that these guitars were of Moorish influence, brought in when the Moors arrived in Europe in the beginning of the 8th century. In terms of the maturation of the guitar, Spain was the main center as it was located where the Moors initially started their invasion. Initially with twelve frets, the guitar model that was initially developed and gained popularity was the Vihuela. People then began making tabs so everyone and anyone could play it without any difficulty. Like the lute, the guitar became the instrument of choice during the resistance. If you brood over it, the guitar’s present image was made from these actions of the past. The guitar became even more popular in the 17th and 18th century, this was mainly because of Louis XIV. Mastering the art of guitar playing was a novelty among the elite in Europe. Throughout the years, the guitar evolved until it looks like the guitar we see everywhere today. The guitar became so popular that it was finally brought to America, it’s popularity had spread worldwide after that. Now we finally get to present day, in which everyone started to appreciate the guitar. The guitar as an instrument of self-expression was the newest craze. People erected halls and venues where talented guitarists could play for other people, people started dancing to the music of guitars, it was soon popularized on the radio as well. As the clamor for more guitar music increased, so did the musicians’ thirst for bigger, better and bolder guitars became. Because of it, the electric guitar was born. Whatever the music genre, the guitar is always the top choice for anyone in the music industry. Guitars and their players share a great relationship, one that outlasts time and culture. Whether it is to vent out or relax, the guitar is still the number one instrument to use, no matter what. Want to answer the burning question How Do I Play guitar?
