Ovation Cases Are Built For Ovation Guitars

Tags: ,

Lots of people own an Ovation guitar for the quality of the sound, for personal pleasure, or to bring the crowd to their feet.  So it would be a fair statement that if you just bought or already own one sorting through the variety of Ovation guitar cases, then selecting the best one, would be the next reasonable step.

Is there a way to tell if a cases is the best one for you? Well you have to consider the shape of your guitar first, and when I say shape I don’t mean the condition, I mean what would it look like if you drew a line around the profiles of your guitar.

Because of the rounded back an Ovation wouldn’t fit in any case you came across, it requires a special case for its unusual shape. Not only that, but the deeper body would also require a case made specifically for that style of guitar.

What’s the big deal on picking out the right case anyhow?  The short answer is protection. A case that fits your guitar the best will fit securely and prevent it from wiggling or shifting around inside the case in transit, keeping it from getting damaged and providing the best protection possible for your guitar.

Usually a case has a small box for storage in the center of the case that doubles as a neck support for your guitar .  These are perfect for putting strings, picks and your guitar strap into.  You see a lot of other musicians over stuffing these and its something you should avoid doing.

It will weaken the lid allowing whatever you have inside the storage box to come out on its own.  If a string or a pick slipped out while in transit with your acoustic it could cause some damage especially to the finish.

If money isn’t an issue, getting a bigger storage box and having other options for storage added is simple allowing you to keep books, tuners, cables, picks, strings etc without having to cram them into anything.

Latches and hinges are very important and can make or break the quality of your case. If they are poor quality or poorly installed or aligned it was cause the case to fail you and allow to much wiggle and shifting inside the case, or worse allow what’s inside out.

The shell or more specifically the material used to make the shell should be a strong high quality material. Whether you go hard shell of soft you don’t want to skimp here. Cases that have a hard outside shell provide the best protection and I highly recommend that over a soft case, if you count up the money you’ve put into your guitar that more than justifies the cost of a case .

Getting what you want doesn’t always out weigh what you need, especially if your budget is limited.  It’s important to not short change yourself when it comes to getting the critical attributes of a case vs a want or desire, do that and your case will serve you well without emptying your wallet.
