Should I Learn The Piano? Part 1

Tags: , , ,

The piano is one of the oldest and most often featured instruments in the classic history of music, so its not surprising its a number one choice of instrument for newcomers to music.

While you may have all the reasons in the world to take up the piano, there are still some critical questions you need to ask before deciding to take it up.

Have You Got The Time?

This is something only you can answer and you’ve got to be truthful. Look at your daily and weekly schedule. When you do, you’ll find that there are a number of things that take up time, you job, cooking, time with family and partners, not to mention your down time.

What you’ve got to remember when learning an instrument is that you ought to be practicing for a minimum of half an hour to an hour every day, this includes following a book or piano program.

Are you able to slot in practice (nearly) each day? There’ll be some days where practice just will not fit, and thats ok, but you only benefit and improve from constant practice over time.

For those who believe that you could cram 5 hours of practice in once a week, think again. You will not benefit even half as much as continuous practice over the week. Even someone that only practices 10 to 15 minutes a day will improve a lot quicker than someone that makes an attempt to cram all of their practice into one weekly session.

Have You Got The Cash?

It is time to be honest, instruments are pricey. Pianos can cost a couple of hundred to many thousands of dollars for a top of the line piano.

If you’re looking at purchasing, an inexpensive, 2nd hand piano can still set you back a few hundred dollars. If you are looking a newer one, you would be fortunate to find one under 1000 dollars, and even then, I’d be suspicious.

The other option is getting a keyboard or digital piano, these are only a fraction of the cost of an actual piano and can come with weighted keys to feel just like a real piano. Nonetheless a good one will still set you back a few hundred dollars.

Think about your pals and family. Would they have a piano you can use? Even then, there will come a time where you will have to buy your own one. So keep this under consideration.

In the following article, we will be having a look at the physical factors that would prevent or make it harder for you to learn to play the piano.

Dr. Anthony Fernando is the creator of the popular piano software – Piano Is Fun which helps children and adult beginners learn to read piano notes. Visit his website to discover more about his revolutionary new piano program.
