It can be hard work learning an instrument. To be able to apply yourself you need a solid self-discipline. Because a lot of your practice will be away from your teacher you need to develop strategies for maintaining a good work ethic. To help you in your journey of learning your instrument here are seven habits that will help you along the way.

  • Don’t put it off. There are always things you need to do when you practice. The easiest thing to do is to put off practicing until another time so don’t do it. Begin practicing as soon as possible because it is so important to practice.
  • Make sure you keep in contact with other musicians. Stay in contact with friends who also play so you can bounce off and motivate each other.
  • Keep going. It is vital in developing your playing to constantly learn new skills so you don’t get in a rut.
  • Don’t forget to properly use what time you have. It is extremely difficult to maintain consistency without a regular practice time. Establishing a constant time to practice is vital to you developing fully as a musician.
  • Have a good practice environment to work in. It is important to have a good place for you to practice. In order to fully concentrate on what you are doing you need a clean and quiet environment to practice in.
  • Fully invest your time. You should never stop striving to become a complete musician. This is why it is good to keep list of all that is required to be a complete musician.
  • Know who you are and how you work. Each individual has his or her own style of learning. For this reason it is important to adjust your practice so that you can maintain it.
