The Best Hard Guitar Cases

Tags: ,

You may have noticed when you see musicians lugging their axe around, many of them use guitar cases. Reasons vary why they do that. Musicians spend their hard earned green backs on their instruments and they want to make sure they are protected.

What to Consider…

If you are not sure what case to purchase, you should take a few issues into consideration. Before you get to far you need to be honest with yourself about the type of player you are or are planning to be. Do you make the rent by playing gigs every day using some expensive guitars? Are you a beginner with a cheaper guitar still learning and are just starting out? Or maybe you’re somewhere in-between. Wherever you are at in your guitar learning progression its seems fair to say that you would like what makes sense and works best for you.

If you travel with your guitar then having something tough and durable that fits your guitar correctly is what you’d want. If you get a case as a part of a package deal that can save you some money, but will it save your guitar from the guy who throws an amp in on top of it!?! (Ouch!) A lot of cases offer decent protection from normal abuse and offer you a little peace of mind, but a hard case offers supreme protection from the unexpected traumatic abuse that no mortal case could withstand.

Maybe nobody has mistaken you for Randy Rhodes and you haven’t exactly been playing a gig every night, even so you want to keep your guitar protected as best as you can to keep in tip top shape for years to come.

But Aren’t They Pricey?

It’s really your decision on how much value you place on your guitar. It doesn’t make sense to buy a guitar for $79.95 from the local superstore to get you started, and then spend hundreds to have a custom case made. It makes perfect sense to spend a realistic percentage of what you paid for your guitar on a reliable hard case, possibly a custom case if the value of your guitar justifies it and you can afford it.

Think about it…you spent a thousand dollars on your instrument, your band is counting on you to make it to the show this weekend to play, but you decided you could get away with a soft case that did not protect it when you needed it to. The band should be putting ads in the paper looking for a guitar player with the stipulation that they must use hard cases for all their guitars. Ouch, again!!!

So do your homework, give it careful consideration, and make the best educated decision you can based on your needs, your budget, and your desires.
