The Final Five Albums Of “The Fab Four”
The Beatles last five albums were 1967′s Magical Mystery Tour, 1968′s The White Album, 1969′s Yellow Submarine and Abbey Road, and 1970′s Let It Be. This article includes a short overview of each of these albums.
All of these classic albums are contained in the Remastered Beatles in Stereo Box Set but just Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album are contained in the Remastered Beatles in Mono Box Set.
Magical Mystery Tour (1967) – I think this is an underrated album and I suppose that’s at least partly because it’s not really a true album so people have a hard time giving it respect for the excellent songs it includes. Magical Mystery Tour is the Fab Four at their most psychedelic before they began to pull it back a little bit and as someone who loves psychedelia, that makes it right up my alley.
The White Album (1968) – My all time favorite album by anyone. It does not flow as well as Abbey Road or Sgt. Pepper and you could make an argument that it is not as consistent as Rubber Soul or Revolver are but I enjoy listening to it repeatedly for the huge variety of music that it lets me hear. This double album is a true sprawling work of art.
Yellow Submarine (1969) – This “album” isn’t really a Beatles album as it contains only four new recordingss that weren’t already released on a previous album. But still “Hey Bulldog” and “It’s All Too Much” alone make it worth listening to.
Abbey Road (1969) – This 17 track album is the favorite of many Beatles fans and for many very good reasons. The most clear is the stunning “suite” of side two which was really pieced together by George Martin and Paul McCartney. And of course there is the classic songs like “Come Together,” “Something,” and “Oh! Darling.” Abbey Road also features the most smooth and most “modern” production sound of The Beatles career.
Let It Be (1970) – This was the final Beatles album released but Abbey Road was, in fact, the final album that was recorded. It is a tad uneven by their standard yet it does still contains some legendary songs like “Let It Be” and “The Long and Winding Road.”
