Thrash metal -should it be left in the 80s?

Tags: ,

The world has been going 80s retro mad for the past few years -why?

Nostalgia can cloud once clear memories, making the decade which at the time wasnt so pleasant seem much better than what it was. 80s acts are reforming to bring us the music we remember from our youth, showing that there is still an audience for their ‘classic’ songs.

There has been a revival in thrash metal, a genre which spawned classic albums from Slayer (Reign in blood) and Metallica (Master of puppets) and now has younger bands such as Municipal waste and Evile. ‘Old school’ bands like Testament, Exodus and Kreator are finally getting much overdue credit and have been revived, delivering new albums and tours. Iron maiden spent the 00′s going from strength to strength, much like they did in the 80s, the Darkness bought glam rock back into public consciousness. Anthrax brought back Joey Belladonna, only for him to leave again afew months later, with Anthrax then searching for yet another singer. Dave Mustaine called it a day on Megadeth due to a hand injury, only to recover and release new albums -expect another new one this year. Kreator moved away from the thrash sound during the 90s only to come back to it at the beginning of this decade with 2001′s ‘Violent revolution’, and have recently released their latest album ‘Hordes of Chaos’.

Thrash continues to go from strength to strength, but will it suffer through the britpop and indie era of a 90′s revival?

And no-one wants to sit through that again.
