Mastering the saxophone, however, will demand not just the will to learn but also training and hard work. The following tips on excelling in adult saxophone lessons can help.

  1. Determination- You have to have a strong determination to learn to master this instrument.
  2. Dedication – you have to have extreme dedication to accomplish a task as hard as this. Even when you don’t feel like playing you need to practice and you need to attend adult saxophone classes. Commitment and determination go hand in hand.
  3. Choose the right saxophone. You need to take the time to find the saxophone you like, one that gives you the tones you need for the type of music you want.
  4. Find that comfort zone. You need to be at ease in holding the sax and playing the right notes. You have to like what you hear coming from the instrument.
  5. Learn how to properly hold the sax – The way you hold the sax and move your fingers along its length should be correct in order to master this instrument.
  6. Get to know different techniques. This will improve your sound and make it melodious. You will need to learn diaphragm control, how to manipulate your tongue, and how to control air pressure on the sax to really excel at playing it.
  7. Make yourself excited about playing. You need to learn to enjoy the process of becoming good. Prepare your mind and body for the learning process.
  8. Make your practice interesting. You can do this by setting goals for yourself and reward yourself when you get something right.
  9. The skills to play the saxophone proficiently will not be acquired in just a short period of time. It can be difficult but it is also very rewarding.
  10. When you start to learn to play you learn more about yourself and find an excitement in acquiring your new-found confidence. This is what you need to enjoy.
  11. Ask your adult saxophone teacher and yourself to customize the lessons according to what your goals and projections are.
  12. Do not allow your mind to be hindered by anything worldly or practical. Just let it soar and be imaginative and artistic.
  13. Just take enjoyment in every step of the process and don’t think about being perfect this early.

All you have to do is learn to enjoy your small achievements. Learn to not expect too much from yourself too soon. Commit yourself totally to the process and see the it through to the end with steely determination. Don’t expect perfection but celebrate the achievement of small goals, without losing sight of the ultimate goal.

Just listen to what your teacher tells you to do and strive to build a better working relationship with him. You also have to set aside any worries, especially those that keep you from practicing wholeheartedly. That’s it! That is all you need to do to learn to be a fabulous saxophone player.
