Travelling to the Isle of Wight Ferry
Some of the finest attractions on the Isle of Wight that are enjoyed by countless people are the festivals. There is quite a long list including the legendary IOW festival for rock lovers, the bicycle festival and the Jazz gathering. There are also numerous other festivals which do not involve music, such as the steam festival on the beautiful old railway, and the horticultural festival near Osbourne house.
The Isle of Wight festival is a pedigree event and stretches back to the mid sixties, where such stars as Bob Dylan, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix have all played in front of capacity audiences. For 2010, the headline performer is confirmed as Paul McCartney, who never played the festival whilst a member of the Beatles. This is a great coup for the organisers, as Paul McCartney has a brilliant reputation for lively performances.
Another of the Island’s big summer festival attractions is Bestival, which traditionally occurs during September at Robin Hill Park. This is a colourful event, and a great attraction for all those who love fancy dress, and being part of the chosen theme.
Wightlink is the largest of the Isle of Wight ferry operators, sailing round the clock for 365 days of the year and also offer three routes across the Solent.
If you are travelling by car, the ferry will take you from Portsmouth to Fishbourne on the east of the Island. The crossing usually takes about 40 minutes, and the terminal in Portsmouth is easy to find and well located. If travelling from further west, a second car ferry route operates between Lymington, in the New Forest, and Yarmouth on the west side of the Island, taking around 30 minutes. Both ferry routes operate a service that runs every 30 minutes.
