If you fancy attending the coolest festival in town for the rest of your life, then create your costume for next weeks Bestival and send in a picture for the competition.

This year’s Bestival features Lily Allen for the first time in three years, who will be appearing on stage on Saturday evening. Not only will be one of the most eagerly awaited acts, but those who attended in 2006 will remember her ‘bunny’ costume which stole the show. Such was her embracing of the spirit of Bestival, she has readily agreed to judge this year’s fancy dress costume competition. All you have to do is get creative and make your costume and send in a picture to the following address: fancydress@bestival.net. Bestival fancy dress theme for this year is Space Oddity, so wake up you Barbarellas and you Klingons and get creative with your plastic and glue! The overall winner will be selected by Lily, after she has picked one entrant per month that she likes the most. if you end up as the winner of the competition, then you will never have to pay for entry to Bestival again for the rest of your life. Wow! See if you can do better than that Glastonbury.

Of course you have to get to the Bestival whilst trying to keep your ‘special creation’ in one piece. Most folks go the traditional way to the IOW by the ferry service. For twelve special people this may be a problem, as they have elected to swim Solent channel to earn some money for charity. All of these very hardy, or perhaps foolhardy, folks plan to swim the route in order to raise money for two charitable organisations. One of the goals is raise sufficient cash to buy a new minibus for a special school in South Africa for disadvantaged children. Some of the other funds will be directed towards the Marie Curie Cancer research organisation. Hopefully the swimmer make alternative arrangements to meet up with their costumes on the Isle of Wight, unless they are intending on appearing as amphibious aliens!
