Yamaha Guitar : Explorations in Innovation

Tags: , , , ,

First off when I first got hold of this Yamaha guitar to be honest I didn’t expect that much mainly because of the price but also because I suppose I tend to think little of companies who turn their hand to every thing and usually buy from specialists who have established themselves having said that none of the specialist acoustic guitar makers I had in mind could compete with Yamaha for price.

The Yamaha Fd01 is a sturdily built acoustic guitar with a good solid feel maybe given by the Mahogany back and sides which feel rich and durable and all set in place with a high gloss finish which is known for its protective qualities, the fret board is also made from Mahogany with a Rosewood bridge and allows you to move around easily with an air of grace unrestricted in fact it is a very playable guitar.

My main and really only problem with it was the sound as although it had a very even tone ie: although the Fd01 has good resonation very high in the scale and down in the bass notes and was quite bright it came across as slightly tinny in my opinion but then I do play guitars like Taylor and Martin a great deal so I cannot help but compare them (a little unfair given the pricing differences perhaps).

The Yamaha Fd01 is the learners dream coming fitted with very solid machine heads for less frequent tuning and as most beginners have tuning issue’s at first this is a huge bonus as well as sonokeling frets which are geared tword acheiving better intonation and thus heightening accuracy when paying any given fretted note in other words the note played will be the note heard every time and for under £70 thats not bad at all.
